Southwest Louisiana Area Health Education Center STD/HIV/Hep Program Specialist
Job Description:
SHHP Specialist will serve in a part-time position reporting to the Harm Reduction Program Coordinator in assistance in and oversight of SHHP (STD/HIV/Hep Program) and CTRS (Counseling, Testing, Referral Services) protocol.
The priority of this role is dedicated to preventing new cases bloodborne illnesse, providing STI-related client support through education, prevention, testing, referring, and advocacy activities guided by the belief that all people are entitled to equal access to health care and compassion.
SHHP Specialist must be comfortable interacting with and creating report with clients while maintaining professional boundaries.
Testing and program assistance will occur 20 hours per week based out of our main office, mobile testing site, and/or satellite testing sites.
This position may require travel within Region V and weekend availability.
Job Duties Include, but are not limited to:
- Provide non-judgmental, confidential provision of services and resources to clients in order to assist them in reaching a personalized understanding of wellness
- Practice best safety precautions and program protocol at all times
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, participants, and satellite testing organizations
- Offer free HIV, HCV, & syphilis testing to clients and provide testing, post-test counseling, and referrals as appropriate
- Provide available information regarding HIV, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, substance use, Harm Reduction, and available resources
- Assist with Prevention Management Site deliveries and communication
- Maintain paperwork with log books, faxes, mail, referrals, and data
- Travel as needed for training, meetings, and workshops
- Communicate effectively with teammates and participants
- Work well independently and in a team setting
- Perform other administrative tasks as needed
Job Requirements & Skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
- CTRS Certification and ongoing program training
- Valid driver’s license, vehicle liability coverage, and use of reliable personal vehicle during scheduled work hours
- Ability to maintain participant and client confidentiality
- Knowledge of relevant local community resources
